12.1.14

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day lunch!
Thank you to all the parents that were able to join us and make it another memorable day.

The food drive was a great success! Our 3rd graders went to each homeroom and collected cans and non-perishable food items. We kept track of how much each class brought in. We placed the cans in arrays in each box so that we could multiply to find out how much was in each box. Great job Mrs. Keith's class for bringing in the most, with a total of 77 food items!

11.17.14

Important Dates:
November 19th - Annual Thanksgiving Day Lunch
We will be decorating our classroom and create a thankful tree!
All parents are invited to join us for lunch. Parent lunches are $3.25.
I encourage all students to dress up for our lunch;
polo or button-down and slacks/khaki pants.

December 18th - Holiday Party at 1:00
I am looking for a few parent volunteers to help during our holiday party.
Please let me know if you are interested.

This week we started our first narrative. Some students are writing about pumpkin carving and some are writing stories about super heroes. Students are going through the writing process and will soon be revising and editing their rough drafts. Looking forward to seeing the final product!

We focused on multiplication word problems
this week and followed these word problem steps:
1. Change the question into a statement
2. Draw a unit box and representation
3. Write a number sentence
4. Fill in the sentence with the answer
Students got to write their own word problems and then classmates got to solve them! Everyone did a great job with these and I'm excited about the progress that students made this week. Next week we will learn to skip count x3. We will sing the multiples of 3 to "Row, Row, Row Your Boat!"
Encourage your child to sing it to you a couple times per night. Repetition is the key!

11.10.14

Addison is having a Food Drive!
Please send in non-perishable food items in until November 18th.
As a class we are going to each homeroom and collecting the cans and non-perishable food items for our school food drive! Students are doing a great job asking homerooms for they're food. We put the cans into arrays to count them easily and then added to get the totals for each class.

This week we did multiplication word problems (x2 and x5) and on Friday we started creating our own word problems. Once we have a class set of created word problems, students will get a chance to solve their friends word problems. This upcoming week we will be moving onto multiplying by 10 and then by 3. When we learn the multiples of 3 we will sing them to the tune of "Row, Row, Row Your Boat." Keep practicing multiplication with your child at home with flash cards and using touchpoints and arrays!

In social studies this week we learned about veterans day and the armed forces.
We wrote thank you cards to soldiers that were sent out on Friday.

In the science lab this week we observed and recorded the differences between clay, loam and sand.

Gobble! Gobble! During our OT/Speech lesson we make fruit turkeys!
Students did awesome with following directions and asking for what they needed.
Thank you Mrs. Otsby and Mrs. Jorgenson for such a fun lesson.
