3.16.15



Science/Writing
We are finished with the human body and are moving on to animal classification, food webs and food chains. Students are currently writing an informational paper on a chosen animal. Students are writing a papers about their animals environment, food and physical features. 


Students are using www.pebblego.com and brainpop to research their animal. They also read articles and highlighted specific information to complete their paragraphs. 






Math
Students are now learning all about fractions! Students are using unit bars and manipulatives to order and compare fractions. Students will learn this week how to use number lines to order, compare and label fractions.

Read Across America Week
& Dr. Suess Day!

Media Center Activites



Green Eggs & Ham!
We made Oobleck from the Dr. Seuss book!
Students followed multiple steps, took turns and wrote about how the Oobleck felt!


We listened to the book Oobleck on the active board.

 
We introduced factions with graham crackers and frosting! Students are doing great so far with fractions. In this upcoming unit students will learn to draw fractions, identify them, compare and order them!

Science Lab
Adaptations and Habitats



Students worked with a partner to make their own GA habitat!
Everyone had so much fun with this creative lesson!




Speech and OT
On the 100th day of school students had to count out 100 Legos and build together. They then wrote about their creation and answered a feelings sheet! 











Math
Division
Students used manipulatives, model drawing and touchmath to learn how to divide.
We also learned the multiples of 6 to the song Wheels on the Bus. 
Students did fantastic with division!





Science
Human Body
Students traced each other and cut out their bodies so we could label our major organs!











We learned about bones and the skeletal system.


  

We wrote about our skeletal system and used the joints to
 make our skeletons complete our favorite hobbies.

Students colored in their bodies.

This week we read and learned about the heart and lungs.
Students cut and glued these organs in their paper bodies!

Writing 
Friendly Letters
One of our students participated in Special Olympics! He traveled to North Carolina to ski! 
We are all so proud of him! This week we started learning the parts on a friendly letter and our first letters were to our classmate. Letters were very sweet!








Language Arts
Grammar and Spelling
Our 3rd graders rearranged words to put them in order to create complete sentences. 
Then they had to come up with the correct ending punctuation. 

This week we practiced our spelling words in shaving cream!



 During our OT/Speech lesson we learned how to make snow dough!
Students had to follow multiple steps, ask appropriately for ingredient
 and had to explain what they were doing to make the dough.
They then wrote about what they created with their dough and some 
also wrote their spelling words with the snow dough!
